She was educated in the Philippines and the United States: her elementary and secondary education were at St. Theresa's College in Baguio City; her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology (Summa Cum Laude) at Silliman University in 1973; her Master of Arts and Ph.D., both in Anthropology, at the University of Hawaii, in 1976 and 1992, respectively. She has participated in archaeological research in the Greater Southwest United States and the Philippines. Her anthropological research has focused on traditional small-scale miners and indigenous people in the Philippines. She is a strong advocate for the recognition of the customary rights of traditional and/or indigenous people and works with several of them at the community level. Her efforts were recognized by the Dalicno-Kankana-ey when they adopted her as "the Daughter of the Kankana-ey Tribe of Dalicno" on 25 March 1994. She is the only person to achieve this honor in this community. Dr. Caballero has worked with the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources and its Mines and Geosciences Bureau and Environmental Management Bureau, non-government organization, the private sector, and international donor agencies on issues that pertain to indigenous people, mining, and forestry. In addition, she is President of Human Environmental Resource Services, Inc.; Fellow of the Society of Applied Anthropology; and teaches at de la Salle University in Manila. She has authored numerous articles and reports, and presented papers at conferences in the Philippines and the United States. She is married to Dr. William E. Reynolds; they have two children, Andrew and Marci. The family recently moved to Cairo, Egypt, where Dr. Reynolds works with USAID.
